An Oenophile's Dream

We are excited to offer a very special collection of wines in this year's
Denim and Diamonds auction.

It is a wine lover's dream auction with varied selection of reds and whites, special edition bottles and vintages, and much more.

These wines will be part of the event auction but we want to give our oenophiles a preview of the offerings, a chance to review their cellars and see what they need to just absolutely need to purchase.

Aromatics of creme de cassis, cedar, sweet cherries, spice box, as well as licorice and graphite. A caramelized sweetness to the fruit with firm, ripe, well-defined black cherry, currant, earth, mineral, loads of glycerin. Full-bodied and deeply concentrated with super plush tannins follow in the finish.

3 Bottles in Box from Wine Maker

Hundred Acre Kayli Morgan Vineyard 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon

Value: $1500.00

This is Eric Dunham's first Lewis Merlot, although he's made vineyard-designated Syrah and Cab from the same site. This is satiny smooth and shows a cherry cola character unique to the site; it's chocolaty and rich, but not hot or raisiny. Dunham's reds have seamless, full-throttle flavors; this is right there.

Dunham 2004 Lewis Vineyard Merlot

Value: $100.00

The Vieux Télégraphe Rouge invariably has a beautiful color, an earthy nose, but one of freshness, lively and promising. One finds freshness in the mouth, nervy and lightly mentholated. At the same time, it is suave and rich on the finish. The tannins are supple and ripe with no dryness. The end of the tasting is very clean and woody, rich with a light licorice taste.

Double Magnum Bottle in Box

Chateauneuf du Pape 2004 Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe

Value: $290.00

Deep ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of dark berries, graphite and flowers. Juicy and high-pitched in the mouth, with lovely floral lift to the redcurrant, tobacco leaf and spice flavors.

Double Magnum

Morlet 2007 Coeur de Vallee Cabernet Sauvignon

Value: $515.00

A Special Edition 9/11 Commemorative Bottle, signed by Steve Sherwin, owner/vinter. The magnum is truly special bottle with a striking hand-etched, hand-painted design featuring the American flag and the meaningful words “In God We Trust” and “United We Stand.” The back of the bottle also stated that it was proudly created “in remembrance of those lost September 11, 2001.” The bottle is the only bottle of wine/liquor allowed to have the US flag on it, by law.

Sherwin Family Vineyards 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Edition

Value: $700.00

A showy style, but appealing for its soft texture and rich aromas of currant and mocha, with flavors of ripely sweet black cherry, toasty vanilla and spicy herb.

This special bottle is signed by Blueline Vineyard owner and vintner Bob Foley.

Hourglass 2007 Merlot Blueline Vineyard

Value: $200.00

The explosive, pedal-to-the-metal, super-duper 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape La Cuvee du Papet has an even darker ruby/purple color, with a glorious intense nose of roast meat and Provencal herbs interwoven with kirsch, black currant, loamy, earthy scents, and some pepper and spice. There is just about everything going on in the aromatics, suggesting that the taster is standing in an open-air marketplace in Provence. Aged 18 months in wood foudres and a blend of 80% Grenache and equal parts Syrah and Mouvedre, this cuvee exhibits huge body, loads of glycerin, fabulous concentration, but is not the least bit heavy or sloppy. This is a sensational expression of old vines that should prove to be their greatest example of this cuvee since their sublime 1990. Moreover, it should drink well and evolve for at least 20+ years. - Wine Advocate

Clos du Mont-Olivet, Chateauneuf du Pape, Le Cuvee du Pape 2007

Value: $450.00

There are some wines that silence the panel with their greatness, wines that knock us back in our seats to stare, slack jawed. This is one of them. It's not just that it's huge, mouthfilling in flavor and tough as nails; it's more that it's incredibly succulent, as if built out of some sort of stone that gives up juice. For all its intensity and ferrous minerality, it remains fresh, the red fruit and spice seeming to go on forever. - Wine & Spirits

3 Bottles

E. Guigal Chateauneuf du Pape 2005

Value: $180.00

This extraordinary wine possesses an enormous wealth of black cherry, blueberry, cassis and espresso flavors, wrapped in fine, well-toasted oak. Has that rare quality of elegance, in which all the parts work together in harmony. Thoroughly dry, it's marked by a firm, astringent tannic structure now, but is a certain cel lar candidate. - Wine Enthusiast

3 Bottles

Caymus 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon

Value: $330.00

Plush and forward, with a dusting of mocha leading the way for plum sauce, blackberry and currant fruit, all followed by coffee and spice notes on the fleshy finish. Starts slowly but puts on weight and depth in the glass, with lovely purity. Drink now through 2023. - Wine Spectator

3 Bottles

Clos du Mont-Olivet, Chateauneuf du Pape 2006

Value: $135.00

This delicious, savory, elegant wine is restrained and understated, but authoritative, which is what he does so well. It is the result of forty-plus years of winemaking experience, probably matched today only by Sonoma’s Dick Arrowood. It has a youthful, dense ruby/purple color, beautiful texture and purity, with nothing out of place. It is a seamless, medium to full-bodied Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that represents the best synthesis of ripe Napa fruit, with a French touch of finesse and elegance. This wine has at least another 10-15 years of aging potential, as it is very long, and the wine is impressive, lovingly textured and rich. Drink it over the next 15-20 years. - Wine Spectator

3 Bottles

Forman 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon

Value: $315.00

A dark ruby/plum-colored blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot and Malbec, it offers up notes of plums, cassis and blue fruits, silky tannins, a fleshy, ripe style and not a hard edge to be found. This impressive effort is the type of Cabernet Sauvignon that normally costs 2-3 times the price. Drinkable now, this sleeper of the vintage will age for a decade or more. - Wine Spectator

3 Bottles

Ladera 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon

Value: $145.00

The least expensive effort, and a top value for a Napa Cabernet, is the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa.

Ladera 2007 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Value: $105.00

The 2005 Opus One, a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec, has a ruby/purple color and a beautiful, sweet nose of créme de cassis and spring flowers. Complex and medium to full-bodied, with silky tannin and superb purity and balance, this is exactly what Opus One was meant to be when it was first proposed. Of course, it is a popular wine to criticize, but the quality has never been better, and certainly 2005 is a beauty. It is reaching full maturity at ten years, but I think there is still another 10-15+ years of upside potential in this wine. It is full-bodied, opulent and, dare I say, delicious. - Wine Advocate

Opus One 2005

Value: $420.00

The 20 year old Penfolds Grandfather Rare Tawny is a pale tawny color with a touch of brick. On the nose it is a bit spirituous and shows notes of raisins and fruit cake, some hazelnut and crème brulée. The palate shows even more nuttiness and depth along with greater freshness and acidity, though it seems drier than the Father. It finishes very long almost like a sweet oloroso or amontillado. - Wine Advocate

Penfolds Grandfather Tawny Port

Value: $70.00

The 2009 Pinot Noir Rosella’s is a gorgeous, sensual wine that sweeps across the palate with layers of dark red fruit. It reveals striking inner perfume, fabulous mid-palate density and terrific overall balance. Hints of licorice and mint add depth to the delicate finish. - Wine Advocate

Roar 2009 Pinot Noir

Value: $195.00

Because the alcohol on this wine is modest, it feels lighter and more transparent in the mouth, displaying a real elegance. The flavors are marked by minerals, raspberry and smoky, sweet, spice oak that's perfectly integrated with the fruit. - Wine Enthusiast

3 Bottles

Tyler 2008 Pinot Noir

Value: $225.00

A huge, fruit-packed wine, made in the Shafer style of mass and potency. With 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and lots of new oak, it’s explosive in black cherry, cherry liqueur and cedar flavors, with a spicy, salty umami taste, like pepperoni. Give it a decant of several hours. - Wine Enthusiast
